Hi guys, it's me again, I'm Duc, but you can call me Damian.
Today, I have just gone through the module 2: And today I've studied and understood about ABCD of Learning Objectives.
Here I will take note all four of what they stand for:
A stands for: Audience, who describes the learner is. For instance, the freshman, the sophomore, the low-level students with non-English major.
B stands for: Behavior, which are action, skill, competency, or learning that the audience (the learner) will accomplish as a result of our teaching/ class activity.
C stands for: Condition, which describes the circumstances under which the learning will occur. In other words, it describes required resources or materials the students would need to access when completing the task.
D stands for: Degree, the levels of mastery the students must demonstrate to indicate he/ she successfully mastered the objective.
Through comments, discussion from my classmates, other students gave out the behaviorism in their class activities, the aim and the degree of their class activities. All of them are totally gives me a clearer view of the learning objectives form. After understanding what A,B, C, D meanings, I can now arrange my class work more precisely. This also gives us the opportunity to get to know our students that will help us adapt our teaching styles and methods. It’s important to know what motivates our new audience, what are their values and personality types. We can also discover what kind of learners they are. By assessing our students’ prior knowledge, we can add activities and worksheets that they will find interesting and can relate to.
After identifying our Audience by keeping the above-mentioned alternatives in mind we can start writing down our learning objectives. Usually it starts with a phrase like: “After reviewing this section, students will be able to…” or “After completing this activity, learners will be able to…”
Having a clear learning objective assists the facilitator or teacher in how a course design. It helps with the creation of assessment, which in return showcases the student’s ability to achieve the objectives through collecting data. Monitoring a student’s progress throughout the learning process is vital to understand whether they are able to reach the learning objective or not. Furthermore, assessing students help the teacher to realize whether teaching methods should be adjusted or not.
I agree with you that ABCD learning objectives is a really useful tool for teachers to identify the objective of a lesson, or an activity clearly.
